Babanango Game Reserve took home the top prize in the “Eco-Hospitality and Tourism” category at the prestigious 2024 Eco-Logic Awards. The awards ceremony, held on October 30 at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town, celebrated outstanding contributions to sustainability and biodiversity conservation. “We are incredibly proud of this recognition and remain committed to upholding ethical and sustainable practices,” said Sarah Alcock, Group Human Resources Manager of the reserve.
Additionally, Babanango Game Reserve is celebrating a remarkable conservation milestone: the birth of the first lion cubs in the region in over 150 years. Following the reintroduction of lions just over a year ago, three cubs have been born, marking a major success for the project. Furthermore, a white rhino calf has also been born, with signs indicating that several other female rhinos are pregnant, demonstrating their successful adaptation to the environment. Over the past seven years, more than 3,000 large mammals have been reintroduced to the 20,000-hectare area, and these births show that the animals are thriving in their new habitat. The reserve continues to prioritize comprehensive protection, especially for rhinos, who are monitored around the clock to prevent poaching, underscoring the importance of these conservation achievements on a global scale.
